Original Six Makeover

I was showing my dad some of my designs and he suggested I do something for the Red Wings and the Blackhawks. So, I decided to do all of the Original 6.

First up is Detroit. This design combines the traditional wings with the blackletter style "D" featured on Detroit's very first uniforms on a shield. This traditional-looking logo as well as the use of the off-white color gives the design a very retro look. The jersey itself is based on old Detroit sweaters as well as their current one.

Next up is Chicago. For this design, I revamped the classic Indian head logo and I put it into the old round Black Hawks logo. This design also uses a little bit of gold in the trim. The sweaters are based on the Blackhawks road sweaters from the 1940s as well as their current uniforms.

Now, on to the Canadiens. I decided with this design not to touch the Canadiens logo since it's one of the best and most historic. Instead, I gave the team a retro almost collegiate look in blue instead of their normal red.

Next up are the Maple leafs. This design represents the long history and tradition of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The logo features one of their logos from the 1940s on top of a Canadian Roundel. The color of the leaf has also been changed to green to reflect the Leafs past as the St. Pats. The sweaters are based on the Leafs uniforms from the 1970s until the 90s.

This patriotic design mixes the New York Rangers with the New York/Brooklyn Americans from the 1930s and 40s. The new logo is based on the old Americans shield logo. The home sweater is based on the 1930 Americans sweater with the 4 stars represtenting their 4 Stanley Cups. The road sweater is actually based on the 1960 U.S. Olympic team.

Finally, the Boston Bruins. This retro design brings brown back to the Bruins' color scheme. It is based on a combination of Bruins sweaters throught the team's storied history. The logo is one of their current alternate logos recolored to fit the color scheme. The whole design was inspired by me growing up near Western Michigan University and being a big fan of the brown and gold.
